Hello. Intro. I've not been lurking, just looking for a day or two before deciding to take the plunge and join.
I was brought up in Porty back in the days when the pottery made pots and there were 3 cinemas. We had our celebrities then too. Jenny Fae the Swing Park [as opposed to From The Block] and Jock the Parkie.
Not to mention a tennis court, putting green, crazy golf and ponies on the beach, [no pooper scoopers though] oh, and the Skylark for a trip out to sea round the power station water outlets. Also the open air swimming pool to shiver in.
Look forward to contributing something, not sure what though.

Portobello with 3 cinemas ... well, that sounds nice. Shame there's none left. I remember some of the things you've mentioned.

The era of above is roughly the late 50's - mid 60's. Jenny was a sort of park keeper for the play area [used to be called the swing park] at the back of Towerbank school. Jock was the "parkie" for Rosefield and Brighton parks

Hello again. So many questions I dunno where to start. bll = Bill, it's just that if I want to register on anything the name Bill is always taken and I have to think of something else so I just put bll by habit now -it's never taken. So it is'nt Bell or Belle.
The first home I remember in Porty was Bridge Street Lane, then a big move round to the High Street above what used to be Portobello Co-op bakery shop then along to Rosefield Avenue Lane.
I used to go to Towerbank then Porty High - the old school - the present school did not open till I was in third year so I had further to walk after that.
The teachers I remember at Towerbank were the Misses Bertram, McCrobie [a holy terror] and Allen or Allan.
What else, oh yes, I'm 54. If I've forgotten anything let me know.

I remember Miss McRobbie. She must have been there for years since I'm a bit younger than you. Her brother was an Art teacher at the High School (old and new). Do you remember Miss Reid (she always wore a green hat with a scarf over it), she was in with the bricks at Towerbank too.

Hi again Bill, my other half is also 54, and was at Towerbank then old Porty High, he lived in Bath Street Lane (just behind TB school) all his life, till he struck lucky and left home to move in with me in the seventies

He doesn't post here but I'll talk to him and get back to you. Who know perhaps you were friends way back, lets hope you weren't enemies though
