Problem Post

Post by Epykat » 12 May 2005, 18:57

Anybody else noticed the new postal system yet? Apparently, if the postman has a parcel/packet to delivery he doesn't bother. He just sticks a wee note through the door saying that you weren't in - even when you were (at 7am). This has happened to us three times in the last two weeks. The first twice I didn't say anything despite having to leave the house early to catch the ridiculous office hours and then had to carry the parcel to work with me (granted, he did offer to deliver the second one and leave it with a neighbour). However, the third time I was more than a little hacked off especially when I got there, waited 5 minutes to be served and was presented with.................2 free washing powder tablets  Since I didn't have time to wait to speak to the manager and was heading for the door with my huge parcel (too big for the letterbox according to the note!) I was then asked if I lived next door to Mrs C. When I said yes, the next question was, "Will you take this parcel for her then?"...... I had to laugh.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

I've been griping about the post a lot recently too. Today for example, I was waiting for a parcel to arrive byspecial delivery..................guaranteed delivery before 12 noon. No problem, I don't start work until 12.30. When did parcel arrive ? 1.30 when I was at work.
I will have to go collect it tomorrow but I'm expecting another special delivery parcel so whats the bet it will arrive while I am collecting todays parcel :?
Just to complicate things I am expecting a third parcel but will it come first or last, it's all too confusing : :?

I've also had a couple of recorded delivery envelopes just put through the letter box and not asked for a signature.

I've found the posties to be, on the whole, pretty good. I did have to stand outside the sorting office one morning for half an hour when trying to pick up a parcel because someone forgot to open the door at seven o'clock - if you ever find yourself in a similar position go round the side to the door that the postmen use.

Parcelfarce is, however, a different story. Twice they've left parcels in my wheelie bin!! They've not managed to do it on bin day yet. Thankfully. And if you end up having to pick up an undelivered item it's one helluva trip across town.

Half an Hour? Have you always been so quick on the uptake?

Can I join in the rant?!

Post by bellybabe » 13 May 2005, 09:50

I had that happen with an urgent parcel a couple of years ago. I waited in for it on the Monday, heard the card come through, ran after the postie and said to her "You just shoved a card through, but |I was in, so i'd like my parcel please." She said "I haven't got one for you - they only gave me the card." I said "This card says you just tried to deliver a parcel and I wasn't in. I'm right here." She shrugged and suggested I complain. I didn't get my parcel till the Friday.

I wrote and complained. I had the standard "We are looking into your complaint and will contact you with the result of enquiries" letter back. I never heard from them again. When we called with another complaint 18 months later, we said "And by the way we're still waiting to hear from you about our last complaint." (I'm nothing if not tenacious... ) The guy on the phone said "We didn't do anything about it because you didn't contact us again." We pointed out the letter said they would contact us; he said we should have known that if we didn't hear from them within four weeks, we had to follow it up - :?:

How does that work?

I've never lived anywhere with a worse postal system than Edinburgh.

Went to collect yesterdays parcel early this morning and came out with all three so problem solved there. Mind you it was not easy carrying three largish parcels along the road, they weren't heavy but bulky.
When I mentioned the fact that they (apparently there were two yesterday) were delivered after 12.00 I was informed that it had been changed to 1.00 pm now. I'm not sure if that is nationwide or just Porty's own rules. Even so they were still half an hour after the deadline.
I was just so pleased to get all three parcels that I left it at that.

Parcelnet are a nightmare, the area delivery lady is so unhelpful I am surprised she is still in a job, she posts a card through your door (a couple of times we were in) and then tries to get you to go to her house to pick up your order??? What do you pay postage for?

We got a microwave recently and she refused to deliver it. We both had rather heated telephone conversations with her but she just wouldn't budge. In the end it was sent back to the shop and re-delivered to Bearcub's mum and dad who then had to bring it to us.

Our postie is brilliant though is terrrified of Bess. :o

Ah, but their master plan is that YOU have to carry all three, not them. Was speaking to one of your neighbours about this the other day. She was in her hall when the post came through the door, complete with 'you weren't in' parcel card so she opened the door, chased the postie and was told he didn't actually have the parcel because........'when I looked at it, I knew it wouldn't fit through the letterbox'

I've never lived anywhere with a worse postal system than Edinburgh.
My view of the Edinburgh postal service will be forever rose-coloured by the events of summer 1998...

It's a World Cup, Scotland have somehow qualified; the magnolian brothers have 'proper' tickets for the Scotland matches (but not the Brazil one  ) and, unbelievably, get through to the mythical french ticket 'hotline' as well. So we ordered up lots of tickets for lots of games and we ordered some more for one of the Scotland games.

BUT you couldn't do that second bit if you had a scottish address. So we used a magnolian sisters address in Ingerland.

And lo! the paperwork arrived in Ingerland 2 days before we left for France, was posted special delivery type thing by silly silly sister to home address - no reply, gone to work, returned to sorting office, blah blah, PANIC.

Phonecalls initially produced no response but mention of world cup footy and 0630 flights the following morning resulted in 2230 phonecall from the big sorting office thing at the west side of the city - 'I think we have found the letter - do you want us to bring it round????'

er, no thanks, we'll be out to get it immediately!!!!

hmmmmm

thought I was the only person to have attended the depot in Windsor Place a grand total of 4 times in the last 3 weeks to collect parcels that "couldn't be delivered". Makes sense if they don't even try :(

having said that, an early birthday pressie was delivered for Neo-Dada on Saturday morning. It was fairly bulky and was delivered by the postie himself. So it's not all bad :)

Another Ebay addict here I'm afraid :D

One parcel last week luckily arrived while I was in and didn't have to go back to the sorting office.......................a tub of 400 worms (live) :D

Oh and received another recorded delivery parcel this morning and wasn't asked to sign for it.

I have been e-mailing someone who I bought a book from through ebay since February. He has been adamant that he sent it but it has not arrived. Recently received an e-mail from him saying that he has tracked the book down and that it is sitting in some postal room in Edinburgh. Apparently the postal service had tried to deliver it, couldn't get access and are now waiting for me to collect it. However, I have never been informed that it is there in the first place so how could I have picked it up  :x

Surely a postcard through my door would have helped.

I heard that on Five Live this morning. £1000 is not to be sneezed at but from the sounds of the report, they are paid low wages anyway. At least Crozier will get a nice big bonus!

We had a recorded delivery letter this morning, as per usual, shoved through my cat flap (since the postie cant take an extra step up to put it through the letterbox) Dimwit.

Glad it's not just me but I really feel an official complaint coming on. We were apparently sent a recorded delivery letter 5 weeks ago which was then sent back to the sender because it couldn't be delivered - we knew nothing about it. No note through the door, no ringing doorbells at 7am, nothing. This has caused us major problems and I am seriously p****d off about it :x Also had a Parcelforce card put through the door on Monday. Everytime I phone to have it redelivered it's engaged - it does mention to look on the website, only to be told "phone this number". AAAAAAARRRRRGGGGGGGG!!!!!!

Maybe this should be on the 'I don't believe it!' thread - I had a parcel delivered today   . To my door, by a postman, into my hands, no card or anything.......... I'm quite overcome and I think I'll actually congratulate them when I go to pick up the other one that couldn't be put through my letterbox on Friday at 7am

the wonder that is Portobello postal service strikes again.

I was in the flat, waiting for a parcel to be delivered. I hear the postman arrive, much excitement, until he sticks the dreaded red card through the door, saying I wasn't in!!! I yanked open the door and asked him where my parcel is...... he said he would go and get it. He disappeared downstairs and out the front door. Is he actually going all the way to the collection office to collect my parcel???? He has now been gone for 10 minutes. Either he has done a runner or even more bizarrely has gone for my parcel.

Only time will tell......... will phone and complain though. How daft and irritating is this service!!!

Glad to hear the Porty Posties are keeping up the good work :D . I've stopped buying off ebay for the moment mainly coz I just can't be bothered with the hassle to get the parcels. A few weeks ago I stuck a note on our stair door pointing out to the postie that we do have a letter box (which has a box at the back to catch the mail) and he really doesn't have to shove the whole lot under the door so that it gets wet or blown back onto the street

I've had three packages recently all left behind a flower pot, all three could have been squeezed through the letter box and if they couldn't then I was in all three times and would willingly have opened the door if the postie had decided to ring the bell  One of them was recorded delivery so what's the point in paying extra for that I wonder ? :?

I would have tipped him but when I went round to his house he wasn't in, so I stuck a note through his door........
