Climate change protest

Post by dccairns » 06 Jul 2005, 21:48

If you didn't make it to Gleneagles, you can still make your protest heard tomorrow.

Here are the details of the climate alarm action planned for Thursday the 7th of July.  It's part of a worldwide action co-ordinated by Friends of the Earth which aims to highlight the drastic implications of climate change, and draw attention to the role of the G8 nations in particular as those responsible for nearly half of the world's emissions of climate pollutants.

The climate alarm is timed to happen half way through the G8 summit, to remind the G8 leaders that it is their moral responsibility to take urgent action to cut emissions; that is is they who can afford to take action now; and that it is they that must take the lead in ending poverty and injustice, and in halting climate change.  There's plenty more information at:

www.climatealarm.org

The alarm will happen at 13.45, symbolising the 13% of world popuation who are responsible for 45% of greenhouse gas emissions.  We are planning to drum outside the town hall for about 10 minutes, and have a lot of leaflets to give out to passers-by.

So bring a drum or a saucepan to bang - or anything else you feel like making a noise with, and come and join us for 10 minutes of noise and partying!!!

I couldn't possibly comment!

I take it you'll be joining us. Don't drive along now.
