A Weird day

Post by CatzVP » 02 Aug 2005, 23:17

Well I saw a strange thing today at work, we were looking outside at the thunderstorm over the airport and saw an aircraft ( I think it was an Airbus) skid of the runway and burst into flames...

Hope noone was hurt

"Flight 358, which was travelling from Paris to Toronto with up to 200 people aboard, was still ablaze two hours after the crash.

A number of passengers on the Airbus A340 survived while there was no immediate word of casualties. "

It seems miraculous that there were no fatalities Catz. I saw news of it last night and feared the worst. Says a lot for the airport authorities that everyone was evacuated so quickly.

Sounds as if the weather was atrocious. Some said that they thought the plane was hit by lightening before it skidded off the runway?

It was a pretty severe storm Marya, today looks a bit better although I heard thunder an hour ago. Weird weather this year...Cold spring, a couple of tornado's 4 miles north of where I live, summer temp reaching 42C with humidex for the last 3 or 4 weeks (severe heat warning and Smog advisory on TV every day) and now sever thunderstorms, on the way home, I could see about 10 trees scattered on the road which had been struck with lightning.

Our building was hit a couple of times, all the PC's were down....

Which is why we had time to look out the window...POOPPY !!

Hope we dont get hit today as I just got the system back up!!

Just seen on the news that your chances of becoming a fatality when travelling are approximately:

Aeroplane - 56 million to 1

Car - 7 million to 1

I guess this means more chance of snuffing it on way to airport rather than on flight.

Doesn't instil confidence in those of us flying on Friday  I don't like flying much anyway and there always seems to be something like this just before I go. I'll just chant POPs statistics all the way there to make me feel better.

Today on the News it mentioned that the info in the black box said.....

The pilot overshot the runway by over 200 meters, no other factors related to the crash.

Well.. Thank God at least, no one was hurt!!

We're booked to fly over again next July, so my friend e- mailed me to say thay if it's thunder and lightening she won't bother meeting us at the terminal, she'll just wait on the 401 and meet us coming out of the creek!!!!
