Our Kitten - advice

Post by MrsMc » 23 Aug 2005, 11:41

Well, it's been a good few weeks now since we picked up Olive from Epykat - so thought it was about time to update you on our little bundle of joy and seek some advice.

She has settled in here fine, the problem lies with my more mature feline, Sufi. Sufi is around 8yrs old, and was a rescue cat. I've had her for three years. They are not getting along!! And in fact, Sufi has basically been living out of doors since the wee one arrived. This isn't much of a problem at the moment becasue of the fair weather.

I rubbed a sock on each of them and passed it between them so they could used to each others scent (as per a Cat website) but to no avail.

As Olive is ready to go in the garden the problems are increasing. The wee one swipes at Sufi (as if to play) but Sufi gets very upset and growls back, then runs away. Olive thinks it's a game and chases after her.

On nights where we have to get Sufi indoors, my husband has to hold Olive so I can take Sufi into 'her' room then we have to make sure they can't get at each other.

My husband has suggested we start putting them in the same room together for short periods (But I am very wary - I would hate it if they did each other an injury).

Sorry this was so long. And please any cat lovers on the forum who have experienced similar, let us know what you did.

thx.

Ours were both collected from the pound ( a kitten and a four year old ) and it took a little over a month before they sat next to each other...now a year later, you cant keep them apart . Cats do hate a change in enviroment, so hopefully its just a matter of time.

She wasn't called Olive when she left here  Glad she's doing okay though. I wouldn't worry too much about them, they tend to find their own pecking order eventually. Just leave them to their own devices and they'll find a way to get on. They might never be pals but they'll tolerate each other eventually. A couple of batterings from the big one will teach Olive to behave! The other two kittens got a home together - they're now called Sabrina and Salem (quite apt for the wee angel we thought!)
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!
