I used to work at the BBC as a librarian. One of my jobs was to catalogue old videotapes (2" VT, if you're techie-minded) that had lain in the archives for years... There was a load of really boring stuff I had to view - TUC Congress, budget speeches, etc. But amongst all that stuff was the original BBC coverage of the moon landings (well, what was left of it - a lot got thrown away).

My earliest date-able memory is the first moon-walk, so this was wonderful for me, being paid to relive my childhood. And then researching this stuff... sitting at my desk reading histories of the Apollo program. Why don't I have a job like that any more?

How did they get the camera crew there before the Americans landed? And how come we don't celebrate Dimbleby Sr. being the first on the moon?

Amazing pic, wangi, thanks.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

The licence fee goes a long long way when you pay your staff peanuts. Why do you think I left?

Fantastic photo Wangi.

Does anyone think that it was a Hoax? Have watched various documentaries stating that it was all a sham cause the Americans wanted to get one over on the Russians at the time cause they managed to get Uri Gargarin into space first.
examples given, the flag was fluttering - which would not happen on the moon, also shadows would not have been cast. What dya think?

It must have been. For a start, why did the Blue Bean Cafe (BBC) employ a librarian? And what do they do they do with the £2 billion pounds a year in licence fee revenue? That could build up a pretty big fund for mounting a spectacular hoax.

I always wondered why they were able to sell relatively cheap takeaway coffee. It's because it's subsidized by the license fee payer.

Well it must be true then, Alex says so - He sure has put a lot of thinking into it!
Who (but Alex/and perhaps Porty) could have worked out this connection between the Appollo landing/Blue Bean Cafe/Librarian and the BBC - amazing!

I tried showing my TV Licence in The BLue Bean in the hope of some discount on a Cappuccino, however I was met with a shrug and a blank stare. :(
