Limited edition - only available for the next 6 weeks.
I loved these when I was a girl. They were very chewy though and I don't know if my teeth/fillings will be up to it 25 years down the line.
Please post here if you spot any in Portobello though as I'm willing to take the risk.
Thank you.

Hi ecm
Try
www.aquarterof.co.uk It has lots of old favorites and sells by the quarter kilo- So should be enough to ruin anyone's teeth! Happy chewing!

I have tasted said Texan bars.
I bought four of them, intending to give 3 away to like-minded people, while worrying that they would taste rubbish, and yet another childhood memory would turn to dust.
Instead, I was relieved to find that they still taste magnificent, and have retained their incredible chewiness.
I didn't give them away - in fact I ate them all the same afternoon, and was punished for this by the stitch I got on my cycle home.
I will see if they still have them in the shop near work.
JP.

I have never tasted a Texan bar but the wee shop at the top of Bath Street is very good for old fashioned sweeties such as lucky tatties and rhubarb rock etc. yum

I got some a few weeks ago but I can't remember where from, sorry.

They tasted wonderful...but were
definitely smaller than they used to be... And no, it's not because I'm bigger.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

JP.
This news is nearly as exciting as Portobello Online winning the 'Highly Commended' award (runner's up place) in the 'Community Enhancement through the Internet' section of the Calor Scottish Community of the Year 2005 Awards today.
I may have to go lie down.
Thanks, JP.

No matter. I shall console myself with quality rather than quantity.

I'm not fond of Texan bars as you often get poked by stetsons, tramped on by pointy boots and the music is not to my taste

I've never had a Texan Bar either but I loved rhubarb rock and lucky tatties...(tobermory tatties I'm sure we used to call them but I don't know why?)
I remember dissolving sherbert in water to make drinks, which was always so weak and disappointing...but for some reason we kept trying it...probably enjoyed messing around with water etc...or maybe a sign of things to come

Yeah, the news should have been posted on this forum as well as in the Matters one, I think.

You're probably right ecm. My first reaction was to start posting on this board, then I thought, 'Wait a minute. I really want all those folk who only look at the 'serious' Forum to know that our website along with all its 'gossip and tittle tattle' is officially one of the two very best community sites in Scotland. We must be doing something right, mustn't we? '
And next year? We'll be the best of course!!

I'd say we were the best now, with a mix of "tittle-tattle" and serious stuff
Do the other forms have nights out like us?

No-one has nights out like ours
Here's what one of the judges had to say about the winning site
"Having judged the category for a number of years now, I have enjoyed watching the Lochwinnoch website develop and evolve," said Dr Douglas Cruickshank, Course Leader MSc in e-Business at The Robert Gordon University, Aberdeen.
"The extent of community interaction generated by Lochwinnoch is quite extensive. With an impressive number of active forums, the website hosts online discussions on a variety of topics concerning life in the village. Issues such as road faults can be also reported and are forwarded to the council's online reporting system. Response times to faults reported in this way are tracked by the community council, allowing the site to be used as a fantastic vehicle for local lobbying.
Let's get that hotline to Clarence going now guys

Maybe we should register with the Lochwinnoch forum and make sure they don't win next year by importing our own brand of tossip and gittle-tattle. Yes.
