Tastiest snack in Porty

I know we've done the takeaway thing to death but if you are peckish or lunching what is your fave Porty snack?

I have a number of faves but if i was forced to choose just one it would be Fords steak pie it is the biz for 91p. If you haven't, you should.

Fords bacon & cheese in a croissant.

edit -> the one in the hot cabinet, with everything all melted and greasy, as opposed to some sort of cold snack. if they haven't got any of those, one of the sausage ones.

As a terminally jaded foodie and general food snob I can honestly say that I have never set foot in Fords, Greggs, Roma or Popeyes - nor am I ever likely to.

Feel sorry for me for this is a terrible afflicition. Unless it is organic, extra-virgin, hand-crafted, free-trade, free-range, artisan, home-made - are you getting the picture?

Porty snack? Hot smoked salmon, courtesy of Williamson's. Or a piece of organic garlic cheese from Kitchener's.

Warning - don't invite me for dinner. I will be disappointed.

It was home-made, and it was a wonderful gesture, and actually it was very good. I chose not to consider whether the chicken was organic/free-range/whatever.

Priest Snack Recipe 115 - "Pastie sandwich"

Go to Fords.
Purchase cheese and onion pastie. Must be cold not hot, even if they look at you funny when you ask.

Proceed to Greggs.
Purchase white unsliced loaf.

Go home.
Cut 2 thick slices of aforementioned bread.
Cover each slice liberally with margarine (on one side only).
Place pastie on one of the slices.
Apply tomato sauce and HP sauce mixture to pastie (roughly 70/30 mix).
Cover with remaining slice of bread.

Mmmmmm.

Wait til wife goes out.
Put kettle and oven on (you might look a bit silly - ho ho ho).

Go to Kost Konscious.
Buy chicken & mushroom pot noodle.

Proceed to Carlo's.
Buy chips. (Salt and vinegar, not sauce.)

Go home.
Put chips in oven.
Make pot noodle according to manufacturer's instructions.

Put chips on plate.
Cover chips with pot noodle.

Go to living room and watch football results.

Mmmmmm.

And after cleaning my teeth, I try to remove all traces of rehydrated pea, soya etc etc from my beard.

Though not always successfully.

I'm glad you agree Sandra. In Hartlepool, where I'm from (and probably most of north east of england), you can also ask for scraps - and they give you all the bits of stray batter which have been scooped out of the fryers. Mmmmmm. They also have "patties" - a patty is basically mashed potato with a bit of sage stuffing mix in it, covered in batter and deepfried. I've never seen them anywhere else. Double mmmmmm for them.

I've not heard of patties since I was about five. Now I'm in transports of delight, remembering back to the good old days. Especially when me dad had a chippy. Ah, those hazy (smoggy), fat-filled days...

I'd suggest Chicken Pakora from Spices.
The salad's always fresh and the chickens fresh (not chewy).
Never had a bad one, and the chillie sauce is the dogs whosits.
