POL Hogmanay
What are you doing on New Year's Eve?
For the first time in living memory the Police Station clock will bring in the New Year in Portobello and I think we should all be there to witness this historic occasion.
Meet up outside Kitchenerer's, bring your friends and neighbours and we will try to organise some music and hot sausages.

We? Hope you're not expecting me to give a rendition of 'Auld Lang Syne' on the spoons BobBob Jefferson wrote: we will try to organise some music and hot sausages.
Other than that, it sounds like a really good idea

I'm using the term 'we' rather loosely here in an attempt to convince people that some thought and organisation has gone into this. But Robert Gatliff is involved, Gail Porter might show up and look out for some Harold Lloyd comedy capers as I attempt to scale the clock tower to make the necessary adjustments to the bonging mechanism.

I have people coming 250 miles or so for the promise of bonfires on the beach. I don't think they're going to react very well when I suggest listening to a clock on the High St instead.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

In the interests of public safety (and out of general interest too) does Bob's Mob have to apply for permission to gather?
Admittedly :
a) It's right outside the Police Station
b) who cares anyway, it's New Year
but how many people are you allowed before the Criminal Justice Bill comes into effect?
or does it take a complaint before you're asked to move along?
You've also stated that sausages will be served - does this change things?
Of course I'm only 5% serious - and if it were on a park or beach then nobody would have cause to complain - but from a strictly legal perspective, if I decided to gather with my mates at midnight tonight and mill about a bit or perhaps shuffle slightly - how many of us could gather on the pavement before we got an "evening all" ?

You are mistaken about gathering in a park particularly if you intend to cook sausages. It is a complete no-no fr COEC and the Police as the residents of Brighton know only too well.Dadaist wrote:Iserious - and if it were on a park or beach then nobody would have cause to complain - but from a strictly legal perspective, if I decided to gather with my mates at midnight tonight and mill about a bit or perhaps shuffle slightly - how many of us could gather on the pavement before we got an "evening all" ?
At the BBBQ we have to cook our sausages (organic) on the street as moving the BBQ into the park incurs the wrath of any number of differing authorities.
I don't know if you noticed but CCTV has been installed to try and catch us at it. Neigbourhood watch attend, in disguise of course, to try and catch the perpetrators but invarialbly they end up blootered asking if there are any spare sausages.

I think you may find it a little chilly if all you intend to wear is a scarf, unless it's an unusually long one of course.
I'll try to have a word with Mr Findlay tomorrow, re the sausage situation but you always have the option to BYOS.
As for anything else, I guarantee the clock will strike twelve - the rest is up to you.

FOR WHOM THE BELLS TOLL
Well done to everybody for getting tonight's wee gathering sorted. See you up there. I'll only have my flask of mulled wine for company, so look out for me!
You've got a very long ladder?Bob Jefferson wrote:Fear not, for the preparations are already in place.
Huh! Tell us now when we can't buy anyBob Jefferson wrote:However, I didn't get round to asking Joe for the sausages. But feel free to bring your own.

Nice to see a decent turnout tonight - don't know most folk due to the online names, tho !
Did you sing 'Auld Lang Syne ?' Left just after the bells ( hurray ! they worked ! ) and probably missed it. Walked along Prom to various fireworks and home for sausage rolls and crap telly. HAPPY NEW YEAR EVERYONE!
