Mother of the bride

Post by sunnyporty » 27 Jan 2006, 17:43

What am I going to wear   after all I am the mother of THE BRIDE oir will be come June 16th. Mr S does'nt have to think as he's only the FATHER OF THE BRIDE and his outfit is supplied. Aunties Uncle and Cousins just have too look smart and feel good but I'm THE MOTHER.I was taken to a Bridal fair last Wed night by daughter and grand daughter ( who by the way is in charge of ALL the bridesmaids )Shes 6 today 27th by the way so she's bound to know what she's talking about.Anyway there were outfits at this fare that were specifically for MOTHER OF THE BRIDE and grand daughter said she would pick me something.
The models came out one by one and I'm sure none of them were under 75 but I kept an open mind. This went on for an hour or so with a sprinkling of wedding dresses in between. Near the end the music died down just enough for grand daughter to be heard saying in a loud voice... WELL NANA I'VE SEEN THEM ALL AND YOUR RIGHT THEY'RE ALL RUBBISH...Needless to say all eyes were on us we just smiled and went to look at the wedding cakes. Still have'nt got my outfit

Know just how you feel Sunnyporty but what about the MOTHER OF THE GROOM - I have that honour in June this year too :!:
I have't actually started to look for an outfit yet but friends and work colleagues have suggested I check out a Designer Shop called NITYA which is in MacArthur Glen at Livingston. I suppose it all depends on what kind of outfit you are looking for. My main priorities are its got to be blue and I have my heart set on some kind of trouser outfit, and I will definitely not be wearing a hat
Mr Lizzie actually suggested I should just wear the outfit I bought three years ago for my other sons wedding as I had not worn it since

Can you believe that :?:

Lizzie why don't you try a fasinator? My mum wore one at our wedding last year and it was gorgeous - just set her outfit off a treat and she didn't have squashed hair which you tend to get when you take a hat off

Nitya is lovely Lizzie. There's a real Eastern feel to the clothes - fitted or flowing long sleeved tunic style tops, embroidered sleeveless vest tops, lined chiffon or raw silk trousers- with lovely rich natural fabrics (silks/chiffons/linens) and colours. At least that was what it was like last time I visited, which is probably over a year now. I used to visit MacArthur Glen much more when I worked out in Livvy, but I haven't been there for quite a while now :(

Thanks Marya - NITYA sound right up my street - I'll be paying them a visit as soon as their new spring stock comes in :)
Of course I will also be checking out Porty's Lauren Elizabeth too :!: - that goes without saying.

Thanks to Sandra for the tip about a Fasinator instead of a hat - not too sure quite what they look like but will definitely check it out on Google

You can often get new ones quite cheap on eBay...
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

Thanks for that Sandra, don't you look lovely, you are all so colour co-ordinated :!:
I will certainly try out a fascinator once I've got my outfit. It looks a lot better when actually seeing someone wearing one - rather than it just lying there like a wee dead bird

My mum got her outfit (which she spend more on than she had wanted to!)and then thought ooops same colour as bridesmaid and flower girls then my sister decided to go same way colour wise, my dad even wore shirt and tie co-ordinating - it was really lovely. :D

Will do. Had a look the other day and didn't see anything suitable for me ... but then again wasn't looking for wedding type stuff then.

Mind you, I might have to wear thermals up there!
