Mine's a toss up between; cleaning out the box-cutting machines at Thynes the box makers, during the Trades shutdown and working in Pik'n Save at Piershill(now Iceland). The former involved working with liquid paraffin all day so you stunk to high heaven, the latter; the boss was called Piggy O'Rourke and was a complete ****.
A milk boy at the Baronscourt Dairy was no barrel of laughs either. One had to wheel a muckle barrow with all the glass bottles of milk in it for waht seemed like miles at a godawful time of the morning.

Checking examiner's marking of "A" level exam papers (freakish coincidence, turns out my other half (same category as marya) was working there at the same time as me, having blagged way in to the most boring job ever had). Run a close second by working in a greengrocers with an open front around Christmas time (like a market stall rather than shop), getting up at 3 to get to smithfield market...with my MOTHER!!!!
My ex had a great one, though - ex did agency temp work, as a software engineer, but one night they sent him off on a night shift, where he was sent to a room and told he had to match up nuts with the right size bolts in a room full of mismatched nuts and bolts. All night. for twelve hour shifts. Turns out they had two people of same name on books, one with less snooty aspirations than my ex.

All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

It always depends on the people you are working with, and to some extent your age. When I worked in a fish factory in Iceland, although it was hard (and cold and wet!) physical work, I was only 21, so the 'hard physical' bit was no bother, and it was a great bunch of people with whom I could have a laugh. Conversely, when I worked for a National Institution a few years ago, it was a warm, sit-down job, and I hated every minute of it - definitely my worst job.

I had an interview once for a job making toast at a big hotel. That was all the job was - making toast. They showed me the big grill and introduced me to the other chefs. I just remember how ridiculously long the interview was, and kept feeling like shouting at them "it's just making toast!". But I didn't. I got the job.
And never turned up. I still get flashbacks involving bread, and toast.

Ever considered cutting a Toast Makers album?Dadaist wrote:I had an interview once for a job making toast at a big hotel. That was all the job was - making toast. Without a doubt mine was in Poundstretcher when it first opened at Kinnaird Park (okay, I know, but we were VERY short of money and the proud owners of two very small children
) I lasted five months and still can't go into Poundies without coming out in a cold sweat. The uniform was very fetching though
