I've got a new skin

Has anyone else checked out the cool new skin available on the forum. Just go to your profile and select "Board Style silver_Xire". It integrates so smoothly with the "Silver" skin on XP and the "Breeze II" skin on my browser.

Oooh. Ooooh. Oooooh.

Glad you like it. I did for about 3 minutes and then decided that in fact it wasn't that good. However, it was our first attempt at incorporating the main menu so that it is better integrated with the main site. It wasn't announced because it's just a work in progress, but eventually I thought it might be nice to have a few different designs (skins) for people to choose from.

You're right. I lasted 10 minutes.

Exactly, to be replaced by a difficult-to-spot grey shading. You see, it's just that 'it's new, it's different, it's sexy' thing that guys in particular are complete suckers for. And then, a few minutes, weeks or months later we realise it's just the same (or maybe not as good) as what we had before. A bit like life really.

It really is much nicer on the eye. How did you do that? Locate the skin I mean. Can't imagine there is a www.chatroomskin.com

We use phpBB. It's freely distributed, open source software and is very popular with online communities like our own. People come up with new styles and mods (modifications) all the time and it's just a case of downloading them.

The administration panel allows us to change lots of the settings and to customise the board to a certain extent. New styles can be added, existing ones edited and you can even create your own. Think I might have a go at adding one or two myself over the next day or two.

If you click on the link at the foot of the page you can check some of the styles for yourself. Let me know which ones you like best.

I tried the new skin ages ago and found it annoying so changed back right away.
However, i've noticed this evening that my post viewing font has changed - it's much better.
