Lidl and Farmfoods in Leith are combining into a mega-store in the Kirkgate in the New Year.

CoOp are huge property owners and the chances are they have owned the shops for ages so they are bought and paid for with no or little rent. Any that is paid is paid to themselves. Therefore the close-down/stay open equation is different from other retailers.

Global Video

Post by aileenandfearghal » 27 Nov 2006, 19:21

Thanks Porty, in my notes I have Global Video advertised by Hardies, but their website doesn't work! Not a great start for apparently their 3rd agents!

Glad to see I have made it to "Portyperson". Very apt as we actually move in on Thursday! Can't wait (apart from having to carry our life up 4 flights of stairs!!)

Good luck moving. I've stayed put and let the relatives move round me. ie Ma in law and step Pa i l move ? March whenever Thisltle Foundation start decanting.
Noticed half of Mike's tackle shop up for let and the tanning place foot of Brighton Place. Dont know the agents but will pyt close attention next time.
See place naxt to take away next to laundrette at Pipe St now called Maggies ? ice cream shop yum yum :D

To be truthful I wouldn't have minded a Tescos localy tho' I'd have been one of those ladies with the tartan trollies rumbling along. I'd still go to Findlays for sausages and great bacon though, as I do at present but take last week -
suddenly realised youngest Clanger is taller than me but still has underwear of 10 yr old. Off to Tesco musselburgh, in car, to get boxers and socks -20% off. Would have been more covienient and ecological to have somewhere in walking distance

The new tan shop near the community centre is in fact the old tan shop from Brighton Place.
All I really need is love, but a little chocolate now and then doesn't hurt!

....more ecological to just put in some extra elastic and make them last until he leaves home

Hmm, the extra elastic idea might have worked but dont think the Disney undies would be "cool" enough for the gloomy teen! It's the feet though, size 8 and he's only 13. Elder brother had me worried but seems to have stopped at size 13.

new antique shop at eleanor robertson is getting quite exciting, new pieces added by the day. :D

Hope it does well, new shops always welcome and much better than a charity shop.

It's called "FridayStreet" - what I like is that it not one of those places where "if you have to ask the price you can't afford to shop here". The items are described and priced on nice big (and bright!) luggage labels. Gives the imprssion that browsers are welcome.

Mind you, are antique shops not a bit like posh charity shops - selling stuff people no longer want!!!

I know, the big luggage labels showing the prices are great - and some affordable too, might have a look on Saturday. :D

There are big posters (of the paper variety!! ) in the ex-Lauren Elizabeth shop announcing that a new clothing shop is opening there soon, but no indication of what type/style/age group,

Just been for a haircut to Jon Paul and the shop on the corner, formerly Lauren Elizabeth is open. It a clothes shop and its called Klaze. I kid you not.

It looks to me like it may be one of those temporary xmas lease jobs.

I asked the workmen yesterday, it's going to be an estate agent.

Also, I had a letter through the door a while back informing me that the old Thompson shop is going to be another charity shop. I don't remember which charity. They still have the "lease for sale" sign up though, so maybe we'll be spared another one.

Looks like a short let (?) - selling "surplus stock" or summat.

The charity shop next to the dolls house shop was closed on Friday due to horrendous problems with the drains.

Heard today that 'Top Hat' on Brighton Place are on the move come July.
They are moving into the premises that used to be 'Mulberries' and 'Bonoful' is taking over the Brighton Place shop.
Good to see local businesses expanding rather than another charity shop opening.
