I doubt that many people will have room in their garden for a gazebo, a trampoline and a hot tub, unless they can combine them in some imaginative way.

Ok Mr. Nimmo - get off your high horse
tom nimmo wrote:I suspect that the current offer of bag packing is just a response by management following a desperate training course about customer service.
To be perfectly honest - whether you get your bags packed or not is down to personal choice of the member of staff serving you - we are not "told", nor are we "taught" how to pack bags. We are not required by management to pack peoples bags for them.
Actually we dont recieve any training in customer service.

Oh - and Bob, how did you know about the Hottub-azeebo-ampaline??? Have you been breaking into our stock room in the middle of the night to get a first glimpse of new products?! Or were you searching for antiques

EDIT: and as for the 'me wearing rangers scarf' avatar, i changed it to a drunken/hangover picture, figured it would cause less insult....although im sure a hangover picture will insult SOMEONE here

Tatties

Post by Skeely » 28 Mar 2007, 20:00

Without wanting to open up a huge can of worms, suffice it to say that some people, myself included, prefer not to buy Israelli products. Last week I was in our favourite supermarket (I do like it by the way), and noticed that the loose tatties, Italian according to the price label, were from Israel. I removed the label. A few days later I was in again, and noticed that the label was still incorrect, so I looked for the manager. He was very understanding, and took away the label and promised to sort it out. I've just been in again, and the tatties are from Israel, although the price label still says Italian (you only see the provenance if you look at the wee tag on the bag).

It may seem like a minor thing to be concerned with, and I'm prety sure it's a mix up rather than an attempt to decieve. It seems to me that in our modern democracy, the only real political power we have is deciding what to do with our money, and I take this sort of thing a lot more seriously than I probably should.

I've been on the lookout (listenout?) for a New Zealand accent, but haven't heard it yet. I'm assuming the bouncy one is from NZ.

No she's not :P - got purple 'highlights' (but then again several have!) and used to be on the deli a lot. Haven't seen her majesty for a while, though. She's a nice wee thing!

Hehe no im not from NZ!? born in leith actually (how fun)
ill make a mental note about the tatties, and try to remember to 'fix' this problem myself, rather than asking someone else to do it...who in turn would ask someone else, who would consequently ask...you got it, someone else, and the whole "asking" thing would travel around in circles until someone noticed the label was missing and made a new one...wrong again.
Hm, i've not been doing much overtime of late (busy with uni) but am still in all day sunday, saturday afternoons and wednesday&friday evenings, oh and my purple highlights have somewhat faded out now lol.
Thank you for saying *hello* sandra, nice to put a face to the name!
I forgot - bouncy kiwi was just a random name i made up after my obsessive compulsive behaviour towards kiwi fruit lol.

The deli - has been removed in every store which actually had one (Porty and Leith). We were told it was to "make room for more products"
I suppose with the growing paranoia over Avian Influenza (which people are told time and time again cannot be caught from cooked turkey, but this makes no difference), also after the scares with beef, and all this fuss over GM food...people prefer to buy their fresh food in packaging now so they can read what they are actually eating, where it has came from and general information about it.

And on an amusing note, i cant remember if i already told you guys about the guy raking in the bin outside the store - pulling out a half-eaten Greggs bag then eating it? i may have, my memory is elsewhere at the current moment!

HaPpY sHoPpInG!

Perfect example of Scotmid management-thinking, exactly what other supermarkets just don't see....lets get rid of the fresh(ish) stuff and replace it with OTT-pre-packed, preservative-loaded "food". Just what everyone's wanting these days.

Funny thing is - the deli food had just as much preservatives in it as the other prepackaged food :?
I liked to read the packaging. It was also ALL reformed - apart from the 'ham on the bone' which alas - was stuffed full of...preservatives!

I have nothing against leith, but I feel a small twinge of sadness at the loss of the imagined antipodean observer of our quaint seaside purchasing rituals.

But please don't let that stop you continuing to observe and comment!! :alien:

Ranting again....
This "think 21" thing is seriously beginning to piss me off.
Please people - if i ask you for ID, and you are 22, do NOT make assumptions of my mental capacity - especially when you have absolutely NO evidence to back up your ridiculous clams.

Scenario: A female, appearing around 20-ish appears at checkout with 2 bottles of blue wicked. One of three situations could be possible:
  • She is underage and trying to buy booze
she is underage and trying to buy booze because she is being used for "police testing" or "scotmid test purchasing"
she is of age, but just happens to look under 21
Either way, i have to politely ask her for ID.
I do NOT need a mouthful of:
"FOR FACK-SHAKE AHM FAKKIN TWINTY TWO N THAT LIKESH AH DINNY FUKKIN NEED ID, UHR YAE FAKKIN THICK n STUPIT OR SUHIN??? FACKSHAKE MAN FOKKAN ID'IN ME" then proceed in walking away muttering about how "thick" and "stupid" you percieve me to be.
I am neither thick, nor stupid. Not trying to sound conceited here, but i started university at 17 and had a diploma in nursing by the time i was 19. decided i did not want to continue with the profession (personal reasons) and proceeded in changing to an honours degree in toxicology and immunology, in which i started straight into 2nd year. At 21 i have a diploma and am almost 3/4 of my way through an honours degree.
I am not "thick".

Sympathies Bouncie Kiwi
My daughter has a part time bar job. Very similar scenarios occur.

She's been called all sorts of names, I've assureded her I am married to her father, she's been threatened and had stuff thrown at her, all in perfectly respecable bars, just for doing her job.

She's heard all sorts of stories - I forgot Id, Thats illegal, who do you think you are, look my mates got it all he's just in the lav etc etc

Mind you she was flattered to be ID 'd the other month ( well she's coming up for 22 )

Actually, some young thing (not B_K) in Scotmid did ask me a month or two back, but she was taking the whatsit ... in a respectful manner (although I've never seen her since!!).

lol, scotmid doesn't have that many trolleys unfortunately (they don't expect that many customers  )
On the "upside", we now have deliveries of fresh produce on sunday mornings! So all cheeryness for the white mushrooms (as opposed to staphylococcus-ridden-due-to-snarfers-inability-to-see-something-nice-and-not-destroy-it-brown-stained-mushrooms)

P.S - the customer who "growled" at me today after approaching me shouting "WHARES YUR SHPREDABUL SPAM, SHPREDABUL SHPAM HEGHK, HEGHK, AARGH, HAW, SHPAM" (i show her to the spreadable spam) "HEGH, ARG, NAY BIGGUR WUNS?? LIKE THE BIG WUNS. NICE ON HOT TOAST, AWW MELTS HEGH, YAY MUSHT HUV BIGGER WUNS, CHECK FROO THE BACK. ASK YUR MANAGUR"
May i just confirm:
If we only stock a product in one size, and i tell you this, i am NOT purposely trying to deprive you of your "spreadable spam" as much as i would like to have the stuff banned and made as illegal as a class A drug, i do NOT hide stashes of it in obscure places purely to enjoy watching you panic and hyperventilate, slobber and grunt over the absence of your "spreadable spam".

Porty's Scotmid

Post by compo » 21 May 2007, 15:54

ah, how I miss the Porty banter - I used to visit the Scotmid regularly when I lived in the area. There's something special about some of the customers, as well as the store staff.

Spreadable spam, I didn't know that such a thing existed..... Must be a Scotmid special?

Is Bouncy-Kiwi still working there? There haven't been any recent updates - or has she been gagged by the head office folk?
