Sorry, meant to say wasn't that all of us last Thursday!

Cheek!
And you didn't see that "nice wee boy" after the fourth lot of biscuits from the kindly biscuit woman...
I had a pretty rotten evening, but am better, if still a tad weak, today. My arm is indeed very sore though. So having enjoyed that experience so much, I've decided to register as a marrow donor. (This is why I like a drink - because when I
don't drink, I come up with painful, "good" ideas like this!)
Thanks for all your kind wishes for recovery.

A complete travesty of justice. I'll never forget it. And as for his next goal, at least 2 English defenders should have broken both of his legs before he got into a goal-scoring position. The man is a disgrace and the result should never have stood.

I'm sorry - I don't think I was born long ago enough to get that joke.

It's time to bring this thread back up again.
The blood donor service are visiting Portobello again on
Monday 21st March at the Town Hall. They will be there from
2.30pm to 4pm then
5.30pm to 8pm. They said they had a poor turn out last November. Here's hoping more people can make it along next week

Good idea, Poppy! We're going along - but don't know if they have my blood due to recent op. But give it a go anyway.

I think it's unlikely, DG - it was very recent. I've got a hellish cold and cough so i can't go either this time. Which is doubly rubbish because i wanted to register as a bone marrow donor too.

Well, nice to know I was missed at the last donor session at the town hall - I just got a telephone call from the BTS
begging (oh, ok, just asking) me to go in to give blood this week as stocks of my (less common, naturally

) blood have fallen to dangerously low levels.
I used to try and persuade my ex-husband to give blood as he was O-, but he never would - big wuss was scared of needles.

Worth flagging this one up again. Blood donor service is coming to the Town Hall again on Monday 18th 2.30pm to 4pm and 5.30pm to 8pm for those who can make it along.

...Just wanted to draw attention to it, especially as the SNBTS is facing a crisis this winter. Are you one of the 94% who don't donate? Go along to the town hall today and see how simple it is! Just think, for every child born in Scotland there are two pints of type matched blood on standby for mother and baby... And
this lad would have died without it.
And it makes you feel really good about yourself, knowing you've saved some lives today.
Go on...

NHS staff just got this from SNBTS :
Dear Colleagues,
Currently the Blood Stocks in SNBTS are very low. We have less than four days supply in five of the eight Blood Groups and we are particularly concerned about O Positive, B Positive and the Rh Negative Blood Groups.
Donor Attendance has been down by 15% since Easter despite record levels of additional mailing, telephoning and other recruitment activity.
Radio Advertising has been in place to support the Public Holidays and we have also activated Blood Donor 24 emergency response panels in Glasgow and Edinburgh.
Despite improved intake, blood stocks remain very worrying.
Blood Donor Week will be launched on Monday the 4th of June and we hope that this will give us sufficient coverage to boost attends and rectify the stock position.
We urgently need your help.
If you are eligible to give blood - please donate as soon as possible.
Please encourage your family and friends to give blood too!
Remember - just three teaspoons of blood can save the life of a premature baby.
I have attached the details of the Collection Program for the whole of Scotland so that you can find a session to suit. This also includes the opening hours for the Donor Centres.
Thank you for your help - We really do need you to act now!
Phone 0845 3017 2 70 if you have any queries.

I wish I could! I don't mind needles at all, and I like biscuits
But the transfusion rule gets me too

I have given blood before but unfortunately, I too am now banned having received blood on two occasions during the 'banned period'. I am more than likely to need some when I get another hip operation as well.

It's less than 12 months since we returned from a year in Southern Africa which rules us out.
It's amazing how many people who want to give, can't.

Yeah, my eldest wanted to donate but had not long got a tatoo, then another piercing so that's her ruled out for a while
Clanger 2 has given, he got very faint but they looked after him well, dont think he likes needles much

Just a suggestion, but maybe C1 should give blood and
then pierce/tattoo?

Yeah, I've been knocked back the last three times I've gone along.
They keep saying I'm anaemic but when I've had my iron levels checked at the Doc's they say I'm fine.
Fussy buggers!

Plug says that the iron levels required are higher than before - allegedly to do with EU.
Drink a pint of Irn Bru before you go along next time, ecm. Or eat some
Irn Bru sausages!

yeah I've had that and have been borderline since they changed the levels - I think it's more for the donor's wellbeing than the quality of what you're giving?

You both know me. I'm not a delicate wee flower. It'd take a lot to floor me!!
I've got fantastic veins and gave great blood. Nearly 30 pints over the years then, about two years ago, this nonsense with the iron levels kicked in.
If things are that tight they can't afford to be so stringent. Like Dada, it's always very borderline with me.

Don't worry, I'll take care of you all. I've got the magic 0- blood and give every 12 weeks. This has earned me all sorts of wee badges, a christmas tree bauble and an easter egg by way of thanks.

Well done, that is an impressive record - take a bow. I am in the magic O Universal Donor category too. Always thought it would be better to be in the Universal Recipient category tho!
