Techie help needed

Post by GRANTY » 31 May 2007, 18:55

Is there a local Porty IT wizzard in the vicinity of Bath St / Prom? I've got a wee firewall problem with my computer which I need to resolve ASAP. Any takers - I can't promise a pint of blood, but could manage a bottle of homebrew. PM me if you're up for it....stuck in the hoose all night in despair!

Ali

What precisely is your problem? Maybe we could help you remotely?

Bob, the problem is actually Telewest!!!!! It took me a while to discover that. They have some major fault which is resulting in access being denied to some secure sites...I've now got some Javascript issue which will hopefully be resolved when they sort out the fault. Ta for the offer of 'remote help'

Still got tv and phone
cant acess my email or log onto my bank account
Tried calling the helpline but it gives another number then daft instructions like unplug and reboot- I wouldn't be calling them if it could be fixed that easily.

How are you posting if you've lost intenet?

Glad to know it is not my problem

Hmm
I cant get to my bank site at all.
I can access my gmail account
Can get to tesco online and look around but I cant access account
Can log onto Paypal and Amazon no bother.
Cant get into eBay but I've forgotten the password , again, and cant reset it as I have no blueyonder email

Glad its not just me . I was resetting and checking the pc before I noticed Grantys thread here
Now we know to blame Virgin

I got this email from virgin earlier this week

"Dear customer,
>From time to time we need to undertake maintenance to our e-mail services
to ensure their smooth operation.
Our next scheduled maintenance work will commence from Thurday 31st May at
22:00 and run for up to 16 hours.
During this work you will not be able to access your Virgin Media e-mail
via your e-mail software (e.g. Outlook Express) or Webmail.
No e-mail will be lost as a result of this work, however you may experience
some short delays in receiving e-mails on the completion of this work.
For more information visit our Virgin Media service status page
http://status2.virginmedia.com/

We apologise in advance for any inconvenience this may cause you.

Regards,

The team at Virgin Media"

so email should be back to normal by now...........in theory. :x

Thought this might be the start of the 20Mb roll out but it doesn't look like it is.

No access problems, but been getting a msg on Blueyonder PCguard for the last week or so that "Sorry, the PCguard server is unavailable". Apparently I'm still 'protected' though....I hope. :?

You must have been very good, Ali to get advance notice from Virgin, no message to me in my inbox.
Got blueyonder email back, now I cant access gmail

Have just heard about Virgin on another front.
You'll all remember my rants about flitting my brother and sis in law
They moved in with V promising to connect Internet/phone the next week
They're still waiting.
Sis in law still ill, no phone in house
Promises made and broken as to connection date for phone etc
SIL taken to hospital again back in high dependency yesterday
Today BIL gets bill from Virgin!
Included are connection charges, line rental etc etc
He snapped, phoned up , ranted a bit, rotten service , got told well, I suggest you use another provider we'll come disconnect you.
Ok can I have a wee word with the supervisor please
Upshot is he's to get 6 months free service ...... when they connect him....

my new hoose doesn't have cable access so i'm having to 'downgrade' to adsl from cable. although hearing this I may have to reconsider my service provider! i'm out of the country right now so can't comment on access provisions at home! mind you i've had no problems with telewest for a couple oy years at least.

No, but Tiscali has been having problems over the last couple of days as the result of complicated thing to do with spammers. Maybe it's the same with Virgin?

But also, according to the email Ali posted, they have been footering with their system lately which always leads to problems with IT systems in my experience!!

The healing crystal had fallen down the back of the desk.
Its back in place on my pc and over broadband connection so soothing vibes coming down the lines.
All should be ok now
Oh and I think Vigin did some work as well.

Just a quick bump as it's likely there will be some down time next month when the new 20Mb service is made available in Edinburgh :D

My broadband was down yesterday also.

But I spotted that the telephone junction box in front of the pitches at the Pitz was wide open yesterday. Now it's shut.

And we are all up and running.

Maybe that was where the fault was.... :P
