Old Porty
Old Porty
Found this site as a result of my 6 year old having to learn about Porty at school. Lived in Porty for the first year of my life but that was 37 years ago. My gran stayed in a tenement in Figgate Street and it had views of the open air pool and power station from the back. Can anyone help me find photos of Figgate Street or the pool please?
Re: Old Porty
I subscribed to SCRAN and have found some interesting photo's of Porty - can't put them on the forum due to copyright etc. but well worth the 25 quid for a years subscription, however, I have not been able to find out anything about the Mitchell Buildings which were sited where Kwik Fit/Jet Garage now stand, it's as though these tenements never existed?Duranie wrote:Found this site as a result of my 6 year old having to learn about Porty at school. anyone have any information on them?
The book of photographs "Old Portobello" by Margeorie Mekie mentioned elsewhere on this site has a couple of photos of the open air pool and the power station - one of the latter might just have a sliver of the tenements opposite it showing!
The book was [is?] on sale at the library and in local shops too.
