Bands/singers that you are meant to like, but just can't.

Post by Maria » 19 May 2008, 14:14

While listening to the radio today I was reminded of a conversation I had with Porty on the last night out. He said how much he liked 'Radiohead' and I had to admit I really don't much like them, even though I know I should. I've tried. I've even got a CD of theirs somewhere, but never, ever, play it.

However, ranking way above my apathy towards 'Radiohead' is my complete dislike of Kate Bush. I really can't stand her screeching. How she can be regarded as a musical genius is way beyond me.

If the Who were playing in my front room I would take to bed with earplugs in and the downie over my head. For me they are up there with the Rubettes.

Katie Melua  . I'd like to stick her bicycles somewhere like Beijing.

She is absolutely the worst. "If you were a piece of wood, I'd nail you to the floor"... "If you were a sail boat I would sail you to the shore"... Save us from this lyrical god.

Level 42- thought they had some good instrumentals but when Mark whatsisface vibrated his vocal chords and "sang" it used to meke me boke both the noise and the lyrics.

Amy Winehouse, whiney druggie

Not sure if Celion Dion really qualifies for the list. I mean it's not really cool to like her, is it?

Could someone please furnish me with a list of what is 'cool' in the world of musical entertainment at the present moment? I used to rely on the NME but I haven't bought a copy for a decade or two. I still haven't quite decided whether I like The Fall or not.

Was just about to say the same (the Beatles that is, not the age  ). The Beatles, and especially Paul McCartney. He's so untouchable that he could release the Birdy Song and would still be hailed a genius.

They have a few songs I don't mind, but on a whole I just don't get it.

Bob, its probably one of those things, if you have to ask its not cool

I personally loathe Eurovision but would never think its cool, apart fron poor old Dustin the turkey who's been ejected already

I just don't get U2 for some reason.

I can normally tune out stuff on the radio that doesn't happen to be to my liking and take an "each to their own" attitude (it would a sadly boring world if we all liked the same music/art/books, would it not?), but having just endured a U2 track on the Arrow radio station, I realised the tuning out doesn't always work!!
