things you used to collect

Post by Porty » 14 Nov 2008, 00:09

Or maybe even still do! The most dogged I ever was with stamps. I used to cherish what must have been a very basic collection. I had some first editions, penny reds and even a penny black. Used to love sticking the little paper stickers on the back. I got the Stanley gibbobs catalogue. Collected some other stuff too.

I collect misprints.......... I'm just about to add "Stanley gibbobs" to my collection.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.

Oh boy. where do I start with this one. I've always collected things. As a child I collected all sorts, badges, key rings, stamps, coins, cards from sweeties of various sorts, cactus plants, model horses and model dogs to name just a few.
Now that I have grown up I am more selective in the things I collect, like vintage bears and dogs, ceramic dogs, pictures of dogs(terriers of course), honey pots and quite a few other smaller collections of various things. I am generally a hoarder and although I don't actually collect them, I have an impressive "hoarding" of carrier bags, my oldest being a Biba bag from the seventies :D You just never know when they will come in handy for something but then some of them are just too good to use
I know, I have a problem

You do have a problem, which may come in handy as I seem to collect them these days!

I used to collect bus tickets in the 70s - it was during my early 20s too! It only lasted a couple of years, but I kept them until recently.

Collecting bus tickets is definitely a younger persons game . One would have to be a bit loony to start collecting them at 65! I used to collect car registration numbers. Mainly on the Milton road.

That just reminded me I used to collect beer mats in the seventies, I had them stuck up all over the place.

....that's another one, I have all my diaries going back over the last twenty years or so. They are invaluable when we are trying to remember when we did something, the old diaries seldom let us down eg I can tell you that I was at Soupy's for a coffe on 25th April 1989. :D just a random entry

Thats what I'm getting at - stuff we used to collect but can barely recall - I went through a short phase of collecting the lollipop mans' discarded pay packets. It lasted nearly a year - the collection made perfect sense to me at the time but why was that? '
