Absolutely pathetic - 'Doing everything he could to save Lismore' would have been to stick his hand in the air and vote against the closure.

Still, its a bit of ammo against him for the candidates standing against him at the next election. Why he didnt vote against the closure of a local primary school, instead abstaining when his no vote would have had such a impact.

I've seen tears used at the community council too. Its neither pretty nor effective. I doubt they were tears of shame. Pity tho as that would havy made the "shook with emotion" the "shake of shame"
.....ambition makes you look pretty ugly

More on the closure of Lismore Primary School from Maureen Child's most recent newsletter:
Lismore Primary School Closes at Christmas – And No Investment Follows

The full Council considered the results of the consultation on 21 November. The majority agreed to close the school at Christmas. I supported keeping the school open until an investment package was voted through that would invest in community facilities for Bingham and pledged improvements to the amalgamated school at Brunstane Primary. This closure, with no investment at all, is a much worse deal than the one that political colleagues from all parties helped defeat on 16 September 2004. The Council decision made then – simply to defer the closure of Lismore, ‘wait and see’, no commitment beyond that – was a very bad decision indeed. And so it proved. We lost the vote, but I will be pushing for the original promise of local investment to be fulfilled.
