Organic Market in Brighton Park

Post by Bob Jefferson » 25 Jul 2010, 23:01

From the EN recently:

Community group hopes organic market will take root in Porty

I'm starting to warm to PEDAL. They're still a bunch of hippies but at least (and at last) their ideas are becoming more realistic. I like this one a lot.

Why Brighton Park?

Why not Rosefield Place (?) next to Klaze? Somewhere central with a high footfall required, not out on a limb.

Probably not big enough if they are expecting 20 traders, though that number might look a bit lost in BP unless they are able to incorporate other attractions. I wonder if the widest part of the prom would be a better venue?

Better cover from the weather in Brighton Park than the Prom also access in Rosefield limited. Will be having a look though.[/i]

Portobello Farmers and Craft Market

Post by natmac2829 » 23 Aug 2010, 22:25

Hi there!

Someone told me recently that there would be a farmers market once a month with a craft fair.

Does anyone know anything about this?

Thanks

Just back from the market and must say I am very impressed - it was very busy and all the stalls seem to be doing a roaring trade.

Away to tuck into the cupcakes we bought!!!

It was mobbed when we got there and no bread left! It was great and a fine addition to Porty. Only bugbear were stalls were too close together and aisle was packed!

Yes, I reckon when we have icy rain driving in our faces in the months to come, we might appreciate huddling together, but today the stalls would have been better spread out a wee bit more. I suppose it must have been difficult to predict just how many would turn out to support it. It looks, however, like a thundering success. Hopefully, this will pull in even more stallholders to the next one. Homer was very disappointed there was no organic beer stall at this one

I wonder what impact the market had, and will continue to have, on local retailers? Is there a spin-off for local shops from visitors to the area, or is the market simply taking money from local people who otherwise would have spent it in Findlays, Kitcheners etc?

I was in Findlays later on Saturday morning and business was brisk - don't imagine they will suffer much.

Well, I bought my meat for Sunday dinner at the market instead of at Findlay's, but I don't think that'll make a huge dent in his takings. After all, there's always his haggis factory to help boost the coffers.

Went along about half 12... As mentioned above those stalls were packed too tight. And by then those that would have been of interest were either bare or very sparse!
