David Walker to stand as local Labour candidate
From today's Scotsman:
http://www.scotsman.com/news/cabal_batt ... _1_2131487
I don't know much about the internal politics of the local Labour party or its selection process but this doesn't sound good. Can we have Lawrence Marshall back please?

Re: David Walker to stand as local Labour candidate
Don't know the bloke and I would prefer Lawrence but I understand he was well gubbed in the selection process, failing to get anything like enough support when it came to the vote.

Politics is a dirty business and the best candidates aren't always selected.

Democracy doesn't always deliver the result one desires but one has to embrace and respect it.

I don't think democracy works very well at the micro level. Self-serving cabals are too easily formed.
Re: David Walker to stand as local Labour candidate
You should stand for PPAG
There is something in what you say, at most there was 100 labour party members who were eligible to vote. I don't know what percentage of them pitched up on the night? Must be fairly easy to get a nucleus of support going, when there's four or five candidates to split the votes.

Yeah, it would be good to get the full story, warts and all.

Walker seems to have plenty of enemies judging by the comments on the EN story. I also found this:

And this reminder of internal politics at work within the local Labour party from last September:

He might be just what this place needs.Bob Jefferson wrote:Walker seems to have plenty of enemies judging by the comments on the EN story. I also found this:
I guess he must have plenty of friends too, that he managed to beat Alex Lunn as well as Lawrence Marshall.

I'm neither a supporter nor a detractor. I know as much about him as you do. I've just always believed in keeping an open mind and I don't believe everything I read in the EN. I find there is always another side to any story so look forward to hearing what he has to say for himself.Bob Jefferson wrote:Yeah, I thought you might be a supporter.

Which parts of the EN article do you think are untrue? I would imagine they have been pretty careful in sticking to the facts to avoid being sued for libel.

EN Comments wrote:The only people he will work hard for is himself, his biatch and Nolan .
Court of session; works only for himself, his biatch and runs roughshod over his Community Council.-Facebook wrote:In 2008 The City of Edinburgh Council had to take him and several others to the Court of Session at a cost of £75,000 (of our money) to get them off Community Council because they were there illegally and ignoring the majority’s needs as usual.
Could someone with those credentials get enough votes to become a City Councillor here in Portobello?
We will have to wait and see.
