Nah, few jars tomorrow and we'll be talking "Radio Free Porty world domination"Dadaist wrote:Nah, wait til we've had a couple of jars tomorrow.......Bob Jefferson wrote:Probably - pm me some costs and I'll see what I've got under the bed.
Radio Free Porty
Sorry Marya, I should have been more specific. By basic site I meant www.radiofreeporty.org, which takes you through to the Shoutcast site, where the LISTEN tab is to be found.Marya wrote:What do you mean by the 'basic site' Rathbone?
Once you have radiofreeporty as a playlist on iTunes you don't need to keep entering the URL, you only need to click on the playlist and you're away.
I have nothing to say and I'm going to say it.
Thanks Rathbone. Can see what you mean now. I've got RealOne Player set as a default application so the site automatically opened in that from the Listen link.rathbone wrote:Sorry Marya, I should have been more specific. You certainly areDadaist wrote:I feel somehow responsible for all this.
BTW it's certainly sounding more like radio this morning. 22.05 kHz from 44.10 kHZ ?

That's why all the experiences you are having are really useful while we're doing test broadcasts. The software I'm using lets you ramp up or down the quality all you like - the limiter is number of users vs amount of bandwidth available.Marya wrote:You certainly areDadaist wrote:I feel somehow responsible for all this. All a worthwhile learning experience mind. Due to radiofreeporty I've discovered how I can play music through my speakers in the kitchen or living room from my Mac downstairs and how to record vinyl onto MP3...I've just got to invest in a couple of nifty wee gadgets £££.

With just my cable modem, it was either lose stereo or cut down to 22khz in order to support 5 concurrent users and see if it doesn't get choppy.
These experiences will help us make decisions about the server in the future.
You're welcome sir!Dadaist wrote:That's why all the experiences you are having are really useful while we're doing test broadcasts. The software I'm using lets you ramp up or down the quality all you like - the limiter is number of users vs amount of bandwidth available.

ali/Marya - I have asked the esteemed Priest to supply a brief "mission statement" and graphic for use on the site - if you can't be bothered coming up with a logo I'll just use your respective avatars.
Jackson's mission statement is very short, priceless, and up to his usual witty standard. Don't feel you have to replicate his style - you're welcome to do anything from waxing lyrical about your chosen selection, your approach to music or life in general, or you could use the opportunity to relate a witty anecdote or perhaps score cheap personal or political points. Just get the copy to me, ok?

Poppy pm'd me a wee while ago to say she'd just witnessed some sex on the beach.
Perhaps she'll give us some details once she has the bionoculars surgically removed from her eyes?
Lovely, lovely. I have now added Jackson Priest's first (of 4!!!) sets to our playlist.
I can't wait to get into work on Monday morning (not often I've said that) in order to properly listen to all 3 new sets as a "listener".
Watch out for some new weird & wonderful new djs. People know about this in Austin, TX and in New Zealand. (ok it's just my friends cody and barbara but hey, it sounded exotic)
Thank you so to ali, marya and jackson for providing something to replace those test transmissions.
*special award* to jackson priest, for providing his set lists as pdf files. Above and beyond the call of duty, and deserving of this special award, and the thanks of a grateful nation.

To Marya I say: Don't worry. Dada is talking piffle. A more accurate description of my mission statement, as you will find out in the fullness of time, might have been "pitiful" or, simply, "rubbish."
I have enjoyed both sets so far (haven't heard mine yet). And I am glad to see that there is another Louvin Brothers fan in Portobello. We might need to form a Louvin Brothers Appreciation Society - Portobello Branch. I am convinced that meetings would be packed out (if we booked a very small room).

No pressure then?
