My mind boggles at the vision of an impulsive purchase of a fridge or washing-machine! Just pop in for my litre of milk, and stagger out with a fridge on my back! Even the car-drivers among us would find it a wee bit difficult to fit into the average car!

Far more insidious, and an old bone of contention, is the placing of sweeties at small-kiddie height by the check-out, where the harassed parent(s) have to deal with packing their shopping, paying, and the demands of wee one waving a choccy-bar they just picked up - with the consequent tantrum if the choccy-bar is not bought.

To be fair, I think most supermarkets have dropped that old ruse. (Mind you I fall for it every time I'm in Kost Konscious - the number of Raspberry Ruffle Bars I've bought on impulse...wily old mayor that he is.)
The pluses for Scotmid, apart from its attractiveness to connoisseurs of eccentric shop display, are its labelling policies, and its support for Fairtrade products. The range of products isn't that bad. We try to get as much as we can from Finlay's, Williamson's and the greengrocers, and fill in the gaps with Scotmid.

Mind you, I remember working for a theatre company a few years back. The task in hand was to come up with a challenging and impossible quest for the hero of the piece we were devising. One of the more waspish of the actors piped up with 'well, dear, you could always send him out to Scotmid for fresh basil.'

And up until a few weeks ago, if you felt tired after shopping, you could always have a wee rest on the double bed that was handily placed in the recess by the front door.

The most recent thing to annoy me is the moving of the magazines. I don't see them til I've paid for everything and am practically out the store. - However I do try to buy it from Kost Konscious when I remember, so maybe that's not so bad!

Yes, I do agree about that. Absolutely.
