BBC Stargazing LIVE event in Porty?
I work at the observatory and the BBC Stargazing Live team has been in touch about running events that coincide with the next series of the show in early January 2013.
They are interested in, possibly, holding their main event in Scotland in Porty. It might feature during the live broadcast (no promises!).
So, I'm looking for a local Porty organisation that would like to play "host" to this. The observatory can provide all the astronomers and activities etc - we need a local organisation that can sort out the best venues, market to the local community etc.
Please get in touch if you are potentially interested.
Clear skies!

I can just imagine the PCC now making the placards for PACS!!!!

Really interesting idea Dan, and you can count on Talk Porty helping out on the marketing. However you're probably going to have a harder challenge on getting an organisation to help out on venues etc. None jump out at obvious candidates... POD maybe. Perhaps you'll need to pool individuals?

Great idea.
What's wrong with using our own astronomers, are you suggesting Porty's self bred astronoomers are not up to the task. Many have lived here for decades and know the Portobello sky like the back of their hands!!StarVanMan wrote: The observatory can provide all the astronomers ..

.....ambition makes you look pretty ugly

With the levels of light pollution around Edinburgh and over Fife, I would have doubts that they will see very much at all

Do you know that nearly a quarter of a million space observations have been made in the Portobello area?

I am currently involved with helping Loch Lomond National Park achieve Dark Sky status. Perhaps we should try the same with Portobello.
