Bellybabe beat me to it on this idea on the Masterclass thread.

Ali has spent the last hour or so converting bmps into jpgs for me so I could post this.
Here's one of me at the George Cinema, Bath Street, now a bingo hall, after seeing the Fab Four in Hard Days Night. The film was released in 1964 so I reckon I'm 3 or 4 years old in the pic.
For those interested in spladooshing and bagging I still find it hard to walk past those steps and not skip down them.

Here's another from the family album - me and my guitar hero brother Ronnie http://www.porty.org.uk/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=145 outside the tenement where we grew up in Meadowbank Terrace.
There are a few more cars parked there these days and if you look closely you can see a very young Brian Monteith MSP (our childhood pal who lived doonstairs) hanging off his garden gate. One for a photo opportunity even back then!

Actually, I've just noticed in that old piccie of Meadowbank Terrace that there was little house at the end of the street. You can make it out above my brother's head.
The house sat right over the mouth of the railway tunnel on the main London line.
It must have been hell in the days of steam trains. They must have thundered under that house constantly.
I can't remember when it was demolished. Where it sat is now just an expanse of pavement leading round to London Road.

ecm, what a brill photo. I don't know why its so evocative must be the Black and White. 1964? Im sure I was at the George when JFK was shot or at least when the news broke.

What about the black mirrored tiles/marble down the side wall? Do you remember doing "Harry Worth"?

I also vividly recall Brian monteith living in Meadowbank Terrace. he used to be a mobile DJ. Anyone remember that?

Yes, but not at the George. I seem to remember some shop up the Bridges somewhere having a mirrored entrance and doing my stuff there!

How many Harry Worth's were there in those days?!! Thing I remember most about the George was being sent (was always SENT, never went of my own accord!) to watch Zulu with my cousin and being hit in the face by a flying Jubilee probably thrown by Porty. Had a nosebleed and the most exciting bit was being let out in the middle of the film (unheard of!) by the SS woman carrying the torch

Just showed this to my mum who went to see the same film at the George - with a bag of chipped fruit from Rankins to take into the film and chips from the County opposite the cinema afterwards!

So maybe it was her who threw the Jubilee and not Porty?

Anyway, I'd just like to thank whoever it was for getting me out of there for the afternoon! It was usually complete mayhem every week and the manager used to stop the film, get on the stage (in front of the fishy curtains) and shout at us all to sit down

(and stop throwing jubilees from the balcony). Surprised any of us survived into adulthood. The best bit was when it was a really boring film and we used to go under the seats (yuck, the very thought

) and play hide and seek.

There was nothing like going to the George and watching a James Bond film on a Saturday afternoon with the cinema full of kids. Cheering and shouting, streaming out pretending to be a super-spy karate chopping your pals up Bath St..

Don't get the same atmosphere at the multi-mega theatre plexes that bombard the senses today.

Ali thought he recognised the place. He visited there some years ago whilst staying at Arisaig. We keep talking about going up there for a break sometime. It looks and sounds lovely.

So you want cute!? Dredged these up from the back of an old album.
Me on top of Arthur Seat when I was three, looking over the east coast. Lord why was the bow in the hair so popular then, I look like I've got antenna sticking out of my head!

And the only I positivley HATE (Think I was about 4 and a half)

I do have the traditional one with me in my bithday suit in a basin of water in the back garden, but I couldn't possibly subject you all to that.

I hasten to add I was 2 years old, before anyone makes any smart comments about what I get up to in my leisure time!
