Scotmid-What's it like?

Compo, the Bouncy One seems to only work weekends (student) and is a sporadic poster - she seems to build up a head of steam first, then

....all the more fun for us!!

The other week one of the other checkout ladies told me two cracking quotes:

A woman was buying the EN and the check-outer started to make pleasant small-talk, to be answered with a snarled: "I came in here for a paper not a conversation"!!

and

When offered already opened carrier-bags, some people say "No thanks, I prefer to do my own". Politer than Ms Crabbit above, but a trifle...erm...weird??!!

I noticed today that Scotmid has shelves of Polish produce (fortunately with the ingredients in English). Soup, stuffed cabbage etc in jars, bottled fruit and whortleberry jam. It's a pity for me and my allergies that a lot contain "milk derivatives", but the fruity stuff looks good!! And the whortleberry jam tastes good too!

We do indeed stock spreadable spam - right beside the jam scarily enough. Very popular with the "chuptpurk crew " That stuff should come with a public health warning on it. And a "if you feed this to your child you should be done for child abuse" warning also.
Another thing, please do not grumble and swear at the person on the kiost at lottery time because you have left it until the last minute to buy a ticket and there is a big queue, they are not as you put it "stupid" "slow" or "thick" and are in no way "no dain thur joab proaperly" either, the reality being that *certain* customers have an inability to fill in the lottery forms properly and consequently we need to figure out why, then rectify this problem on the machine which does take time when you have 5 of these tickets to do per customer. Fill in your slips properly and its an easy "slip in, ticket out" job!!!!!!!
Another thing - what is with lazy people recently dumping refrigerated stuff in the freezer and vice versa???
Grrr............oh well need to leave soon to spend another fun-filled 8 hours in the joyful place that is scotmid.
I will probably be in the porty-mid a lot more often now uni is finished for summer

Right - SERIOUSLY - WHAT IS THE NEED!!!!! - in SQUEEZING the freakin rolls???? They are ALL baked at the SAME temperature for the SAME amount of time in the SAME oven. WHY do people INSIST ON SQUEEZING THEM??????

And WHY must people put rolls into a bag, then dump it on random shelves?? And the gross person who left the bag full of spat-out cherry pips sitting on the promotion bay - seriously, that is freakin GROSS! It's also THEFT.
And whoever is STEALING the STEAK out of the packets, and dumping the empty packets on the juice shelves - you WILL BE CAUGHT - either by security or Campylobacter jejuni, E coli O157, Listeria monocytogenes, Salmonella or some other little lovely.
What on earth do they DO with the meat once they have ripped it from it's packaging?? Stuff it into their pocket? That's SICK!
AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRGGGGGHHHHHH why do i agree to ridiculous amounts of overtime????

Gross it may be, but theft it is not. I have it on good authority that anything you consume in a supermarket is fair game. A good friend of mine used to feed himself as a student by 'grazing' in the Brighton co-op. Actually, that's probably not such a good authority. Does anyone know better? I'm just talking about the legal status of supermarket grazing, I'm not going to defend it morally (not right now anyway).

And...it's a well known fact if a person leaves a store - must be past the point of payment - without paying for something, it is stealing.
The fact that the product is swirling around in their stomach rather than hidden under a jacket, does not make leaving the store with it "legal".

Hey - let's all open the cans of beer in the booze isle, sit down and have a wee party! It's not stealing as long as you drink it all instore! While we're all at it, we might as well break into teh cig cupboard, have a few smokes and open all the biscuits!!!

Now that would be illegal. I don't see anything in the link to back up your claim that grazing is theft though.

There must be some mileage in taking a picnic to the supermarket, tucking in and when you are arrested for stealing you counter sue for wrongful arrest and character defamation.

Anyone thinking of attempting this strategy ought to be aware that its not obligatory to use a picinc. The ruse would work with any chocolate bar. Although one would have to remain vigilant when using a supermarkets own brand chocolate bar. One would feel pretty silly getting arrested in Scotmid for eating an M&S walnut whip copycat.

I have a suspicion I know who the culprit is and if I'm right he has been getting away with it for years. In some ways its not his fault, he is partially deaf and loves to do things to please his beloved wife. It all started because of a misunderstanding a number of years ago; he thought she asked him to purloin steaks, he did so and when he got home she said well done.

They all speak english. Maybe its the law or polish manufacturers hoping to attract british custom. I imagine the ingrediebts of spreadable spam will be the same in any language.

It's kinda obvious that the labels have been added and I'm sure they say why. I'm vigilant on my own behalf for medical reasons as are many others, no doubt - and the information is also essential for those who need to be vigilant for cultural or ethical reasons.

It's the law - any foodstuff that is imported into the country must be given a label in English, to comply with the Food Labelling Regulations.

Everyone needs to know the name of the food, what's actually in the product (~ in descending order of weight too, if you don't mind) how to prepare/use it etc and there should also be the name and address of the manufacturer, or in the case of food made elsewhere, the contact details of the importer.

Bet the label on the "Spreadable Spam" made for interesting reading!!!

we just had a brown grainy fresh bread from Scotmid - it was yummy

Generally find the fresh breads for Scotmid are very good.

Went to Scotmid at noon to take advantage of a 2 for 1 type offer they are running at the moment. Unfortunately there was a big empty space and only one pack left so I asked the Assistant if there were any more. I was gobsmacked to learn that there was indeed stock remaining but that it was nightshift's job to stack the shelves.

I had to leave empty handed.

I was in the Scotmid today aswell, to collect a parcel from the post office. 26 minutes I had to wait in the queue. I wonder if its like that all the time. This serves as a reminder why I try my hardest not to have to visit a post office myself, but rather get some other fecker to do it for me.

Nobody's had a pop at the 'mid for a while, so here goes...

I was in at the weekend, and asked why the Mackie's ice cream, advertised at half price, hadn't been in evidence since the posters appeared. I was told there was none, as the warehouse only had a very small quantity and none of it reached Porty. "the posters say 'subject to availability' - that's how we get away with it". "Why do you put the posters up then?" I asked. "We can't just leave a blank place on the wall" was the reply. Unconvincing, and that excuse doesn't explain the sandwich board at the front door, which seems like straightforward deception to me.
