But Bob, by your own admission, if a building is not fit for purpose it should be demolished and if land is unused and is becoming a dog's toilet it should be built on. I really don't see your problem here.
Enough of your nonsense - get back to the Play Pen!

Are we talking about consistency here?

Epykat I haven't 'grudgingly accepted' anything! I've said from the beginning that I'm in support of the building of the High School (not schools) on the Park.

Re: 11 Rosefield Street
Clearly Epycat is referring to the fact she has changed her mind about what she said - one minute she was against the school from the begining the next she was in favour, once again from the begining.
I can only conclude that the two contradictory statements therefore occurred in parallel universes.

Other way around.
First she was in favour of the school from the beginning.
Then she was against the school from the beginning.

Re: 11 Rosefield Street
I feel dizzy just thinking about it, so I think my confusion is justified, Seanie!
Fair enough to change your mind, but that's completely different to denying you previously held the opposing view.

It's epyKat Seashell - epyKat.....seashell wrote:Clearly Epycat is referring to the fact she has changed her mind about what she said - one minute she was against the school from the begining the next she was in favour, once again from the begining.

Has it been Epykat right from the beginning?
Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review
And it's seashell, EpyKat - seashell…
By the way, it is also convention to use three dots for an ellipsis, not five (keyboard shortcut ALT+0133)

Surely the question is 'in which universe?', seanie?seanie wrote:Has it been Epykat right from the beginning?
The one where she is for the school since the begining or the one where she is against the school from the begining. Or was it the other way around?

I always love it when someone tries to be a smarty pants and then and then goes on to make themselves look daft. Shortcut on seashell's planet means using 5 keystrokes when using 3 would produce the same result. A bit like using fancy words to make you seem smarter...

Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review
Scoop - the keyboard shortcut (so-named by Microsoft, and not by me) actually gives you the correct formatting for an ellipsis, which you can't achieve by simply pressing the full stop key three times. The spacing is different. It is a similar concept to using a keyboard shortcut to create m-dashes and n-dashes instead of using the hyphen symbol on the keyboard - you get a different result.Scoop wrote:seashell wrote:And it's seashell, EpyKat - seashell…

And ellipsis is not a fancy word. It is the correct word for that particular punctuation mark - and therein lies a vital difference.
So - that would be you completely wrong on both counts then. Best not to throw stones while living in your glass house.
Re: New Portobello High School - PPAG Judicial Review
Nah, but I did check it to see if it would give me 3 dots, and not 5. I like to minimise my chances of not making an arse of myself. Or should that be backside? The only "shortcut" I use is Alt 0189. Now that really is a shortcut...Pal of Porty wrote:I bet you used the ALT+0133Scoop wrote:smarter...

Actually, you can tell he didn't as the spacing is different.Pal of Porty wrote:I bet you used the ALT+0133Scoop wrote:smarter...
Look at the ellipsis in my original post and then Scoop's version.
(you can tell I spent far too many years formatting text for publication, can't you?)
BTW - can't repeat the shortcut to demonstrate the difference, as I'm using a laptop now I'm at home.

Hey PoP, didn't you spot that my spacing was not in the correct format? Shame on you! You thought you were looking at ellipsis, and all along it was just 3 dots in a row. Let's go to the bottom of the class together and shoot peas at the swots sitting at the front.

Laugh ... I nearly wet myself...
As a punctuation fetishist I just had to dash off and check ...
The most common form of an ellipsis is a row of three periods or full stops (. . .) or a pre-composed triple-dot glyph (…). Although an ellipsis is technically complete with three periods its rise in popularity as a "trailing-off" or "silence" indicator, particularly in mid-20th century comic strip and comic book prose writing, has led to expanded uses online. Today, extended ellipsis anywhere from two to dozens of periods have become common constructions in Internet chat rooms and text messages
Different ‘expert’ sources give different points of view:
Bringhurst’s ‘Essentials of Typographic Style’ holds that the details of typesetting ellipsis depend on the character and size of the font being set and the typographer's preference.
The Chicago Manual of Style recommends that an ellipsis be formed by typing three periods.
The Modern Language Association, however, says that an ellipsis must include spaces before and after each dot in all uses.
The Associated Press Manual holds that when the omitted text contains a period, a four-dot, spaced (except for before the first dot) ellipsis (. . . . ) should be used.
In computing several ellipsis characters have been codified, depending on the system used. There are 8 in Unicode, 5 in TEX, 3 in HTML, 3 in Windows, 2 in MS-Dos and 1 in OSX, all of them slightly different.
Excuse me while I now go off to measure my ellipsis with a micrometer ...........
